High-Tech Processing was requested to design, build, and commission a Ready-to-drink (RTD) Blending Plant for Diageo Uganda Breweries Ltd. The plant would receive 96% ABV GNS, necessitating ATEX rated equipment. Additionally, the process would incorporate flavour ingredients at low dosage rates, a solid dissolving dosage system, an RO plant, and a fully automated CIP plant. The project was turnkey, providing services including process design, technology selection, mechanical design, electrical design, automation design, project management, procurement, shipping, construction management, and commissioning. The initial project timeline was set at 6 months, and upon completion, the design and procurement for a cider blending component had already been initiated. High-Tech Processing worked closely with the civils design and construction teams to build the civils requirements for the plant, as well as the packaging SLA holder to integrate and run the packaging systems. The bulk spirits storage system is ATEX rated, with the required equipment and instrumentation to mitigate the risks involved. The plant design considered future expansion for additional space for final product tanks, as well as a processing principle that will operate on a semi-batch scheme initially, and when demand increases, can switch to inline blending with little to no modification required. The plant was designed for easy intake of ingredients to allow for a wide range of products to be blended on-site in batches of 700 hL for an excess of 300,000 hL per annum.
